8 Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

There is lots of talk about Artificial Intellenege in the IT industry. Needless to say, it is going to be a big advancement in the technology field.

As like every other growing technology, plenty of statements is going around about AI ethics.

Is it good or bad?

What are the pros and cons of Artificial Intelligence?

Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence

There are lots of myths about artificial intelligence. Before getting into it, here is Artificial Intelligence, I can define it in a simple way…

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is described as “the intelligence of machines.” It’s all about creating machines that have the ability to think like humans and as technology is advancing with time, researchers and scientists are aiming to introduce an emotional characteristic as well into these machines.

With the growing technological advancements, it looks like artificial intelligence would definitely be the next big thing of this era.

Ever thought about how would this affect human life?

Go through the following points to know what advantages and disadvantages artificial intelligence can bring with it.

Top Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence

AI comes with advantages and disadvantages. Let’s look at them one by one.

Advantages

Here are the advantages of using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

1. It Is Cost-Effective.

Unlike humans, robots and machines do not have to get paid every month for the work they do.

Although machines are pretty much expensive to maintain, the maintenance cost is very small as compared to the expenses that an organization bears for its employees.

Hence, it helps to reduce and to control the cost by using artificial intelligence.

2. It Enhances Efficiency.

Artificial intelligence provides work efficiency.

Since manpower would be replaced by machines, work would be performed in a more efficient manner, depending on the type of intelligence.

If machines would be built without any flaws, no doubt they would be able to perform even the most complex tasks without any errors.

3. They Don’t Take Rest.

One of the top benefits of using artificial intelligence in the workplace is that machines and robots can perform lengthy and important tasks in a more effective manner.

Even the machine doesn’t need to take a break to accomplish a big task. Unlike humans, machines don’t need to rest or take a break.

They don’t need to eat or sleep like us and never fell ill or take leaves.

They only need to be recharged or refueled by an energy source to reach their full potential.

Ultimately, this enables the companies to boost their productivity by working 24 hours.

Artificial intelligence has many benefits to human.  By automating a simple task, we can save a lot of time.

4. Machines Don’t Have Emotions.

Since machines don’t have emotions, there are no chances of any emotional barriers getting in the way of the workplace.

This is a great advantage because having no emotions means that nothing is going to affect their performance.

However, this is completely different in the case of humans because we have emotions and many of us find it hard to work in a stressful environment.

These are all advantages of AI. It is not easy to see future programming predictions. So it’s time that will tell us more about it.

Now let’s see what are the disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence.

Disadvantages

Here are the disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

5. Machines Cannot Feel Compassion And Sympathy.

There is no doubt that machines are much better when it comes to working efficiency but they cannot replace the human connection that makes the team. Machines cannot develop a bond with humans.

6. Increase In Unemployment And Job Security Issues

With more and more machines being designed, there will be an abrupt increase in unemployment and job security. Since machines are replacing human resources, the rate of people losing their jobs will increase.

Needless to say, humans will be no longer a priority for companies.

The only way to empower yourself in the IT industry is by improving your technical skills and by finding trends for future jobs requirement.

If you are a programmer, you should always keep analyzing the programming job requirement in the future.

7. Risk Of Loss Of Important Data

Living in the 21st century, we’ve seen and even experienced it once or more than once in our lives that our important information gets missing due to technical issues such as machine damage or the software of our system getting corrupt.

We use computers, smartphones and other devices to store almost all our important documents, files, pictures, and videos. Once lost, it is not possible (or very difficult) to retrieve this information.

This can cause serious trouble for your business.

8. The exploitation of artificial intelligence

Misuse or exploitation of anything is bad.

In the case of artificial intelligence, it’s worse.

We often hear threats that the misuse of technology can bring the world to a destructive end. This stands true to a great extent as we have seen in animated movies and films.

If AI is given into the wrong hands, high-technology machines can definitely destroy society.

Wrapping Up My Thoughts on Artificial Intelligence Growth…

Despite all the pros and cons Of Artificial Intelligence, Industries are adopting Artificial Intelligence to do work more efficiently and with less cost. So as the way Big data is becoming a future trend, Artificial Intelligence is too.

We saw the advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence. Today machines possess almost human-like abilities and artificial is a perfect example of this fact.

As per derived knowledge, the outcomes in artificial intelligence are getting better rapidly.

Therefore, it is best to accept the changes in the world we live in and take benefit from all the amazing features that artificial intelligence has to offer to us.

    1. What is the point of making products if the populatipn can no longer afford to buy them. If the trend keeps going the unemployed records will be broken every year with millions of people thrown on to the scrap heap. With no job comes dispare and anger towards those that have. We are walking a dangerous knife edge which tipped tne wrong way will destroy us.
If we want to avoid this happening, wealth distribution has to be addressed.
      1. Companies that make increadible profits while putti g off human workers need to pay into a social fund the amount of taxes they would be paying if they were hiring a human work force.

  1. Look i agree with you that they don’t get paid every month like humans but there is one problem you need to update their software so frequently that’s gonna cost you much, do think about it.
thank you for sharing this article.

    1. Hi Rahul,

      Thanks for putting your thought.

I am sure and agree with your point as well. The cost will be there to maintain and keep software updated.

But it will compensate with the work one machine can perform. For automation or iterative work, the machine can perform 10x more work, by most efficient and reliable way and by uppermost accuracy over the human error.

  2. Thanks for this detailed post. We are enabling the machine to think and act intelligently.

I am not sure if it is right or wrong, one-day humans will get replaced by Robots.

      1. I agree with you if you say there should be a limit on the use of AI. AI can never replace human. There are some human elements that can not be replaced by a machine anytime like communication, sharing information…

Unlike a human, the machine cannot give creative thinking. All the decisions made by machines are based on the conditions and data provided.

        1. There is no point in production if there is no one to buy the product, there will have to be jobs created or a universal income. Also If people are not earning where will the government get the taxes they need to function. I think our greatest t danger with AI is ethical problems and intellectual property/ copyright issues.

      1. If you are talking about the machine replacing humans everywhere, which tasks seem so impossible to you which machines can’t do?

        1. The machine can not replace the human mind. Machines’ predictions always rely on past pieces of evidence. Some decisions are taken based on morality, human feelings, and machines still far-far away. Machines can not pamper you when you are down.

  3. Great job, nice reasoning pros and cons of AI. I think this technology will have a great future and is definitely worth risking.

  4. I’m researching this for an essay for my 12th grade English class and we already don’t have enough jobs for the number of people we have and knowing this is a potential risk for even more jobs is a little scary.

    1. Hi Liam. I agree, this looks a little scary at the first glance. Deep down, it will also open new opportunities. But still, we are not sure about the proportion and the ratios. Everyone has a different opinion here. Interesting to see going forward. Best wishes for your schooling 🙂 Tc
